Custom frame covers
A company came to me needing 30 covers for some aluminum storage frames they were having built. They wanted the covers to be very durable so I proposed we use outdoor fabric. This was my process....
First were a couple of prototypes. The covers needed to attach to the frames and the client asked that I use this technique.
This was the inside of the cover
The velcro was secure but I didn't like seeing the stitching one the outside of the cover.
I also felt that the attachment over all was sloppy....
The size of the frames was altered and the client asked me to do another prototype to make sure the new size and fabric would look right. I asked to be allowed to try something different with the attachment system. This is how I approached it---melting a hole in the hook velcro and screwing the velcro to the frame itself.
I still stitched the loop velcro to the webbing for the handles but now when the velcro was wrapped around the top bar, it held the cover to the frame very firmly. I was pleased with the new design and the client was thrilled.
They had me design and stitch a clear plastic pouch to the front of every cover so they could label what was inside each covered frame.
As the fabric was a heavy acrylic outdoor fabric, I cut the entire project with a heat knife. It was time consuming but gave me the peace of mind to know the seams would never be able to fray. For proprietary reasons, I must obscure the logo of the client but trust me, the huge embroidered logo was a thing of beauty!
The finished cover. I was very happy with how this project came together and the client was pleased to see their vision come together as well as this.
